I wont go out witout a winch as I ride by myself sometimes. I made an anchor out of a trailer house anchor I got at Lowes and a wheelbarrel handel. I cut the handel down and whittled a handel on the cut end. Then I drilled a hole through it and got a big galvanized carrige bolt to hold on. When I am not using it I take it apart and strap it on the rack. It works great. There is a pic of it strapped to my rack in the "Snorkel System" album in my pic's.
