I want to go up a size or two on my polaris 500 sportsman for ground clearance. What is the maximum size I can increase too? Is the lift kit worth the hassle? Any recommendation for tires/wheels?

 

You could run 28" with out problems. You may need to go with different rims to get the clearance from the tie rod ends. Or you could run wheel spacers. Lift kits will gain you another 2" of clearance. Give us some info on what type of riding you do. To help narrow down for some tire choices

 

Trail riding in Nevada, mostly very rocky dirt roads. No mud, very little water crossing, some snow.

 

If i were you, i would look at the Mudlight XTR's and the Type 7 rims, or the 26inch ITP Terracross tires with type rims.. Both look and perform VERY well, and should help out the ride..
