Default predator 50 mods

I just bought a polaris predator 50 for my kid, the neighbor got his kid an Eton. The Eton is a fair ammount faster than the Polaris. I have taken off the jumper on the cdi and taken the govern screw on the trottle off. I do not want to go all out, but is there some small things that I can do to increase the speed a little bit. Watching the Eton run off and leave the Polaris is hard to take. Oh yeah, it is a 2006 Polaris 50. Thanks for any help.

I used to work for Alpha Sports ATV's (now Tomberlin motorsports) the company that makes the pred 50 ,90 and Sportsman 90 for Polaris. The gear ratio on the pred 50 is 15/35 which is way to low and doesnt allow the mini pred to take advantage of it's wide power band. This is what you need to do. Go to your polaris dealer and get a 18 or 19 tooth front sprocket (I used a 19 tooth) and a pred. 90 chain. ( your current sprocket is 15 tooth with keeps the mini pred to 15mph) Install the sprocket and wrap the new chain around and measure it. (it will need to be shortend to fit the 50) My kid has the same pred 50 and I did this mod for under $50. The stock gearing is so low it actually kills the power of the pred 50. (which Polaris wants) You WILL gain MORE acceleration and a 7-10 mph higher top speed. When it gets on the pipe the taller gear will use the power band instead of blowing through it and hitting the limiter. (thanks to the auto tranny which keeps it in the meat of the power) If you have any ??? feel free to call me at 706-699-4773 for help.

Thanks so much for the help. That is exactly what I was looking for. I knew that there had to be something simple that could make some difference. I realy did not want to start messing with things that would effect the reliability. Will this have a large effect on low in power for small climbs and in soft dirt or sand?

I am looking at a Pred. 50 for my son, as well. Please let us know what comes of this mod and if it helps to handle that Eton.

I am already surfing the net to find a sprocket. I will let you know how it goes. I would recommend the Predator 50. I like everything about it, accept it just seems like it is being held back.

Check and see what tooth the 90 pred has on it. You may be able to use it. Look on line at Tomberlin Outdoors it should help. I live 25 miles from the main warehouse so if you cant find the sprocket on line give me a call and I will get you connected with one of the tech.s there. As far as the bottom end it didnt hurt my kids at all. On the holeshot you notice power loss for about 5 feet, after that it will come alive and smoke a stock pred 50. I can still ride my kids on a full size mx track and it pulls the hills with ease. ( I am 175 lbs) The stock gearing on the Kolt 50 by Alpa Sports (same engine) is 18/35. I bought one and noticed it was much faster than the pred 50 from start to finish. That is when I changed the gearing on my pred 50 from 15/35 to the 19/35. It really give it an edge over the other stock 50's. With the new gearing and a pipe you can be pushing 25-30mph easy and the machine will still be reliable.
