Default My Thread Died!

I thought I would post my topic in the "correct" section 'Powertrains,Suspensions,Tires' and it died after 3 replies. So I will post it in our Forum hoping my Polaris pals will help-out.

Last weekend I was cleaning some equip. around the yard and noticed cracks in the sidewalls of some of my stuff.

Question is how do you guys prevent dry-rot so that you get more value from your tires?

What tire dressings actually accelerate dry-rotting? Which are best?

the RVer's say to put white covers over the tires to keep the sun's
UV rays & the heat from cracking the tires. Also keep the tire pressure
up to spec. If it is going to sit for over a year it is most likely best to take
some weight off the tires too, or remove them a put them in storage.
I never have messed with tire dressing before.

Never had any long enough to worry about it! I would assume as with cars and trucks, Armor All would be the best!

just make sure that the arom. you use is for tires. the reg. stuff will rot them after awhile.

If you are leaving them outside, then yes they should be covered. Also, as stated, alot of so called "tire products" will actually increase the rate and which tires dry rot. One of the best things to know about tires is that they have anti-aging chemicals in them and the best way to keep them nice is to use them! Their is a ton of good info on the web about tire care, do a google search and read away!

Thanks for all the replies so far.

I just can't understand why my '70 Honda ATC90 (US90) with the baloon tires (no wheels, all rubber- anyone remember the good 'ole days? ) have minor sidewall cracking after 36 YEARS and my JohnDeere wagon tires are shot after ONLY 8 years. It just doesn't make sence to me.

I want my US90 tires to last another 30+ years but I don't know how to do this except to keep it in the gagage suspended off the ground.

(magna29 I will try that Google search as well.)

Any more thoughts?...................
