I just installed a new gorilla winch on my 05 sportsman 500. Does anyone know what the extra plate of metal is for? The directions don't list it as a part.......it is about 8"8" with one end at a 90 degree angle. I purchased the mounting kit and winch together, and the part came in the winch box.

 

its just a genaric mounting plate that you dont need or use if you have bought a mounting kit. i have about 3 or 4 extra ones of the winches ive installed.

That plate is for mounting the roller head, how did you install it? you mounted the roller head direct to the winch? I had my 2500# Gorilla Winch for a year, I have used and abused it, ran it thru water, used the winch to dig a 90 foot ditch thru my yard, pulled a full sized truck up a hill that was stuck in mud, bent a 60' telephone pole. I know guys that have the Warn Winch's and have trouble with them. Isn't it a good feeling that you paid less than $100 for a winch thats better than a name brand $400 Winch?

 

ive had just the oppisit happen where my warn has been flawless(all 4 of them)and does a great job where my buds had some small issues. i'll stick to my expensive one where its never let me down yet.

 

I installed a Gorilla 3000 winch on my Sportsman 450 last night. I had to cut a notch in the front headlight assembly to get it to clear the inside nut on top of the winch.

Now I will begin wiring it up. I'd appreciate any suggestions as to where I should install the contactor etc.

I'm new to ATVs and really love riding.
