Default 50cc Scrambler problem

A buddy of mine has what he believes is about a 2000 model scrambler 50 that he bought for his son several months ago. The problem he's having is after about 15 minutes of riding it will die and not restart unil it cools down. It will crank but won't start. He suspects that its not getting enought oil mixed in with the gas because he says he puts in quite a bit of gas and it never uses much oil. What do you guys think?

I owned two over the past 5 years and both were Scrambler 90cc and were hard starting cold or warm.

I was very happy when both were sold and out of my garage.

Replaced one with a Honda dirt bike CRF50 and it is one fine running machine! Now that it's a little colder outside, it takes a few more min to warm-up but no big deal. One smooth running, super-high quality little bike!

It is probably an '01, first year they made it the 50. I had the same thing on my daughters, I would bet that it still has the electric choke. go to your nearest dealer and the manual choke kit....fixed mine.

Good Luck

Sorry, but I have to be truthful.

I forgot to add something. I put fuel stabilizer in it for Winter storage in my HEATED garage. In the Spring, it wouldn't start, No matter what I tried, it just wouldn't go.

Most dissapointing power equipment I have ever owned since a new Force150 outboard motor I had on a Bayliner Arriva. That Force motor was pure junk from BRAND NEW!

The best thing your friend can do is to find a 4-stroke something by a good name-brand mfg. imo.

Yea, that fuel stabilizer that doesn't work. I swear that the best thing to do for storage is to drain the gas out. Think of it like this, NO GAS = NO VARNISH! You will have to take the carb apart and clean it most likely.
