Starting Problems with my Hawkeye
#1
I bought this Hawkeye 2006 2X4 used the other day with 33 hours and 160 miles. When I bought it started fine. It seems to run fine just getting it started is a pain now a few days after i bought it. I keep it in the garage and the coldest it has gotten was about 50 degrees. The only thing I have done is add some carb cleaner and put in a gallon of 93 octane fuel in the thing because the guy said it had been sitting up for a while. It takes nearly 20 min to get it cranked. Once it don't crank i pull the choke and it just sputters from there. It will die and then after a while it just decides it is going to run. Once the engine get warms it runs like a champ. If you have any suggestions let me know on what I can to do help.
Thanks

Make sure the throttle cable freeplay is properly set, there shouldn't be too much slack.
Put in a new plug, properly gapped, just for peace of mind.
Make sure the air filter is clean.
Now, as far as cold starting, this is what I have to do with mine:
If it's colder than 50 degrees, I turn the key on, pull the choke all the way out, pump the throttle eight times, then crank it over with the throttle cracked slightly. Starts first or second time like this.
Hope this helps.

Ok what would cause it to crank right up for about 3 seconds then die. Then after choking and about 15 min of cranking it finally starts and runs good. I pulled the plug and it looked good, I am going to get another plug tomorrow. the air filter looked new. When i pull up the choke and try to crank it runs for sec and then dies. What else can i check to prevent this for taking so long to crank.

i guess i would wonder why the guy sold it w/ only so few miles onit since its an 06. i would also go to a dealer w/ the vin number in hand and ask them to do a search to see if this bike has been worked on. it should be in the polaris system if they any dealer worked on it. also some have had carb issues form the get go so maybe this one hasnt had any updated on it. its worth a check.

Story i got was he bought it last year to try to keep son in school but he quit anyway and he decided to sell. I will talk to the dealer today to see what i can find out.

around how much should a dealer charge to fix a choke cable on a hawkeye. Once the thing gets started it runs good. It is just a pain to start. So that is why i am thinking choke.

Just my luck. Take darn hawkeye to shop to see why it is so hard to crank when it is cold. I call today to see if they made any headway and they can't see nothing wrong with it. they said it has started up every time since sat. so now they think i am crazy LOL. Hell i guess back to drawing board. i guess when it get really cold i will carry it back and see if they can crank it then.

Just another thought here ..my wife's sled was hard starting after it sat for a day or more.....It turned out to be the fuel line going to the carb.....When is was sitting the fuel back up and the line was drained(air in there) When you got it going and shut it off the fuel was still there long enough to start it again ...If you didn't wait to long...........If you have this problem.....the fuel should be getting there ,and should start after turning over for about 5-10 seconds......(if it is not flooded).....Just thought I would run this by you.................................caper......... ....
