Buying a 1993 350L - Any thoughts?
#1
Newbie here with some questions:
I am thinking about buying a 1993 Polaris 350L. This would be my first quad and I wanted to get everyone's input on it this particular model. I have searched the internet for a review but found nothing. I was hoping someone might be able to point me to one, or share their experiences of the pros and cons.
Also wondering if there is anything in particular I should be on the look out for when I go to look at this one. I have owned several honda and kawasaki motorcycles in the past, but this would be my first experience with a polaris. How is the reliability? I'd imagine it's not as easy to get parts. Any thoughts on whether or not I would be able to plow with this? I'm a big guy (6'1" 240 lbs.) and I want to make sure it can handle me.
Last thing - the guy is asking $1500. I looked up the NADA value which was around $1100. Is $1500 way too much?
Thanks for all your help.

i wouldnt pay that much for it. since you dont know the history of the bike you dont know if its been abused or maintained which could leed in to mechical breakage from normal wear and tear of lack of lube. its the roll of the dice buying an older quad no matter what it is. just my 2 cents but i think you would better off buying a sportsman w/ irs and better for plowing as well.

I bought my 350l for $600 and my 400l 4x4 for $900.I would check the sprockets and chains on it.A common problem is the electric start. If it is 4x4 check ALL the chains and sprockets up front and look for wear.Check the hubs too.If the tires are worn the value will be less than one w/ good tires.Mine runs strong w/ 4800 miles and has only gave me a starter problem which is common. It doesnt have good bottom end power so it isnt that good for towing but it rides good IMO and plows good.
Hope this helps.

It does look to be in decent shape. It could use a good power washing, but other than that is looks pretty good (link to pictures is below). The seller claims he bought it from a dealer about a year ago for $1500 and has spent another $1000 on recent work including a chain, sprockets, coolant bottle, carb kit, etc. Owner before that was a local farmer/hunter.
I'd love too, but I just can't afford it.
I have posted pictures of it here so you guys can get a better idea of what I am dealing with.
I can probably live with spending a little too much for something that turns out to be a good machine, but I don't want to sink a bunch of money into a piece of junk. I know there's no way to know what's going to happen with it a month down the road, but you guys have a ton more experience than I do, and I really appreciate all of your help.
Any last thoughts?

93 4X4 can be a nightmare if it has not been properly maintained. would look for something else unless it appears to in like new condition.

The older polaris two stroke were also prone the compression lose, due to the cylinder getting out of round. They need to be rebuilt every few 1000 miles. Just buy looking at the picture that one looks like it has been left outside alot. Plus the racks are missing witch would be a flag to me that is was crashed and they were damaged. I would look for something else.
