brutus, are you having any issues w/ the 450 or you just thinking you want to jet for the cold wheather? you could tape off part of your air inlet to restrick air flow as well. but i dont know if you need too.

No Im not havin issues......I am just tryin to do the right thing to avoid issues. It's my 1st new quad and I dont want to ruin it by doin somethin stupid. (i dont know these machines like you guys do)I know you told me in another thread it would be ok, so I am more relaxed about it now. I just want to be able to ride when it really cold now thats its winter and I only have 10 hours on it. I just get paraniod and I wanna ride

Hello to Polaris gang. This drill works for either 2 or 4 strokes. First warm up motor to full operating temp. Then turn up idle slightly. Then start playing with adjustment screw until you find position where idle is highest. Then to be safe go 1/4 turn richer. Now turn idle back down. Now you are done. If settings were good in summer then this is all you need to do to the idle/pilot circuit in winter.
Several words of caution. If you can not locate any setting where idle peaks out then you need to change pilot jet. Usually you should try one step richer until you find jet that idle will have noticible peak but depending on mods you might need to go leaner. Next when you find point of maximun idle count number of turns out from closed position. Usually you will be between about 1/2 turn and 3 turns out. If less than 1/2 turn out or more than 3 turns out then STOP and put on your thinking cap. Don't try to understand the following after more then three beers. If less than 1/2 turn out try larger pilot jet with 4 stroke and smaller pilot jet with 2 stroke. If more than 3 turns out then try smaller pilot jet with 4 strokes and larger pilot jet with 2 strokes. Many tuners make pilot changes if over 2 turns out.
I guarantee we will see three answers claiming I am backwards. I am now on third glass of good cold chardannay so there is definite possibility that this may be true.
The needle and main circuits may still need to be messaged but getting the pilot circuit correct will go a long way toward making things start easy and run sweet.
I hope this info helps and may go a little ways toward reparation for all my slandering of Polaris' lack of 4 WD engine braking.

your more then welcome brutus. w/ in doubt leave it alone. 4 strokes are no where as bad to worry about as 2 strokes. w/ a 2 stroke you could easily burn a hole in the piston or scour the cyclinder but 4 strokes arent that bad. unless its extremly cold out and your beating the hell out of it going full throttle alot i will doubt you'll see to much change expect maybe getting it to idle when first starting it up until it warms.
