Default 05 Polaris 800 Questions

Hey guys. I am curious as to what you guys think high mileage on an SP800 is? I found an 05 Sportsman 800 with 1500 miles on it for what I feel is a cheap price. The machine is in great shape and runs excellant, but I am concerned about the high miles? At what point do i have to worry about the motor and the seals? What problems or issues do you think the high mileage may produce? The man has taken great care of the machine, but 1500 miles seems like alot to me!!!
Another issue is the odometer. The speedometer works fine but the mileage number flashes. I checked the wiring and can't find anything loose. I am assuming that there is a problem in th gauge itself. If I buy a new gauge, will the milage automatically show up on the new one or what will happen? I don't want to install a new odometer if it will make the milage show incorrect like starting over at 0 or something!!!!!! Any input on this topic would be greatly appreciated. I don't want to spend my hard earned money on a TURD if you know what I mean! LOL!!
Thanks for your thoughts.

As for your high miles question...1500 is not much in my view!!!!...One of my 2006 450 Sportsman has about 950 miles ..It really depends how it is treated and kept with proper care and service.............Caper..........

with 1500 miles, the motor is just getting broken in, really. as far as milage, its poor, but for a 800cc its good. you should see at best 85 miles out of a tank. thats what i usually averaged.

Thanks for the info so far guys! Let me clarify one of the questions that i asked. The odometer on the machine shows about 1500 miles. Now this number flashes on and off at certain times. I checked the wiring and didn't find any loose connections. If I buy a new odometer to replace the faulty one, will the correct mileage show up on the gauge? As stated before, I don't want the mileage to be wrong. I don't want to have a machine with 1500 actual miles on it that has a new odometer that starts at over at 0, therefore misrepresenting the machine. This 800 is nice enough that I want people to look at the 1500 miles and go, NO WAY, THAT CAN'T BE RIGHT!!!" LOL!
Also, what is the fix for the heat issue on the 05's?
Thanks again guys for helping out a forum newbie!!

The kit I got to fix up my early 06 (prior to Feb 06) was Part#2876048. You may want to cross reference it with the dealer to confirm a fit. It came with instructions. It is painted steel which others have said rusts very quickly. I had it ceramic coated with the rest of my header but maybe a good heat paint would do the job. Have a quick look at my picks tomorow. I just made some changes to my page so it needs to be approved by the moderator.
