Default broken spring

Looking at my 05 800 with 1300km on it I pulled off the right rear tire to find a broken spring. The bike sat funny looking at it in the shop with all the tires set at 7 psi. The bike is used it rides greats. Has someone seen this before.
thanks Purch

Default broken spring

I have seen the sportsman 500 H.O. springs snap or brake. I put on Heavy Duty springs on it.

Default broken spring

I had a similar issue. I noticed that it was sitting lower on the rear right hand side. When I had the plastic removed I noticed a serious bulge in the spring. I was rubbing on the can and would normally have 1/4" to 3/8" clearance. I replaced it before it broke but I only had 20 hrs and 250 miles on it. I think the heat of the pipe and can may be causing the problem. Springs are wound then hardened and the drawn back (tempered) with heat. If there is too much heat it will draw it back even more turning it soft. Tried to get a new one from Polaris because of the low hours but wouldn't do anything for me. My dealer gave it to me at their cost.

I would be interest to know where it broke. Mine was rubbing fourth wind down from the top.
