Can anyone suggest an upgrade tire for my stock 26 pxt radials? Looking at mudlites? Have 07 LE 500. 50 miles in had to put 3 plugs left front sidewall. been researching, these tires seem to be decent. Friend has 500 with 589's and his seems to steer so much better even though his tire's weigh more.

Hey Outback, I've heard nothing but good about the Mudlite XTRs. I've talked to a couple guys who ride the trail system I use and they love them. Every magazine article I've read also gives ITP high marks for them. As soon as I wear through my stock 489s I'll be putting a set of the XTRs on.

I have Mud Lite XL's on front, and 589's in back. Never had a flat with either (both 6 ply or 6PR) in over 1000 miles. Plenty of flats with stock tires. Didn't leave PXT's on long enough to get any flats this time. XTR's look impressive, haven't heard anything bad. Wouldn't hesitate on Mud Lite's again though, light weight, very reasonable price. Super Grip makes a tire very similar, heard has better wearing tread, a rim guard and cheaper.

the biggest thing you will notice if you go w/ anon radial tire like the xl's or the 589's is they wont handle as good. if you like the smoother ride of the pxt's then go w/ the xtr or another radial tire. the pxt's are only 3 ply vs. the xtr's are a 6 ply.

For trail riding and rocky areas, the "maxxis Bighorns" are very popular out west here.

Since my stock tires are 26's I am probably going to go to a 25 inch tire because they do not make a 26 8 12 in a mudlite for frnt. 25 8 12 for front and 25 10 12 for rear. I dont want to deal with buying spacers, clearance is close. Is this a good choice?
