CVT belt drive in SUV by Saturn

This old outdated technology (that some others call it)is finding its way into a new suv by Saturn(GM)

Yea, I came across that today as well. Snowmobile\ATV technology hits the big time. If it performs the same way as the PVT system it should make one great SUV.

Also, CVT trannies have been in cars overseas for years. Many Euopean and Japanese cars has them.

CVT trannys are not new. We had an old IH 715 combine that used a heavy-duty belt drive CVT. It was strong enough to spin out the tires on dry ground in Low, and kill the engine in High. I think it was about 90 Hp or so. And weighed something like 15,000 pounds or so-empty. Could hold 100 bu of corn in the bin, adding another 5600# to that weight. Never had the belt break, either.
