Default 2007 Sawtooth Problems

I'm new here and looking for some guidance from you experts. I just unloaded a new 2007 Sawtooth for my son. Picked it up from the local dealership on Thursday, went through all the checks, everything seemed fine. Really didn't do any riding to speak of (just around the parking lot) due to all the rain and I didn't want it to look as though dad enjoyed it before Chistmas morning. This morning gave it to my son and we were going through the break in process, ran for about 1/2 hour, seemed no problems. Gave it a rest for a couple of hours and were off again. This time it seemed to be idiling really bad, actually killed on him a couple of times. I took over and road it a while and noticed it would kill everytime after letting off the throttle. One time it wouldn't not start for him and actually to the point of like having a dead battery. Pushed it to the shop and charged the battery most of the afternoon. Started it up after charging (3 or so hours) and took off noticing it was still not idiling right. Now it killed and won't even turn over. Seemed now either the starter is not engaging or the battery is shot. Have it on the charger and it seems to take a charge, but still will not even spin.

Help, do I try replacing battery, etc. Dealership is closed until after the New Years holiday and I would like to rectify myself it is something easy.

Thanks...Ted
