Default how do you seat a tire??

i got a new set of rims and tires for x-mas and yesterday i went out riding and when i dropped into a mud run the bead broke on my front tire "only on one side" i can fill it with air and it will hold but if i let the air out the tire just comes right back off the rim so is there some kind of adhesive to hold the tire to the rim or do i just need to pump more air in there..

Yep, make sure you clean both surfaces well. The tire should have a maximum seating pressure somewhere on it. don't go over that for safety sake. You also can use some soap to help the bead slide on and seat. Good luck and be careful. Doc

Default how do you seat a tire??

Mornin Jayblazer
I used to deliver Mobile Homes, and when we had a tire that came off the rim, we would take the tire off the unit, pull the valve steam and spray starter fluid in it, set it up and throw a match on it, It would blow the tire on the rim, Just a little POOF!!, It was set, Nother way, is to get a rope and a bar (screw driver, stick, anything) and twist it round the tire so it smashes it down in the center of the tire till it took air, The starter fluid was quicker, easier, faster,,

when im seating beads, i have found that the maximum recommended pressure thats on the tire, isnt quite enuf to pop the bead completely into place. i usually end up exceeding that by about 5 pounds or so.

also, if it came off in a mud hole, your more than likely gonna have mud and water inside the tire, which can throw off your tire balace in a big way. so you might wanna completely remove the tirea nad clean it all out, and clean the bead surfaces.

ive never heard a pop wheni mounted tires like you get w/ car tires. when you blew the tire did you look to see if theres a line or some kind or mark(may not be on all tires) that goes all the way around the tire near the bead area that you can look at to see if its seated evenly all the way around. kind of hard to explaine but i think you get the idear. there is a product (dont know the name usaully black in color) that garges use to put on the tire bead to almost like gluing it so when it blows up and drys it holds the bead.

do you think its worth letting the soap dry first and seeing if it is seated? im just wondering if since there is no pop into place maybe the wet soap is keeping it from sealing right.

When we mounted my tires on my new Visions we had to put a ratchet strap around the tire to start it to hold air. I had to put quite a bit of pressure before it seated.I dont know how much but when it seated it made a HUGE pop and the set nice. They have beenholding air perfectly.
