Got the bearing ordered . Rick, what temp. do you set the toaster oven ? ALso, you found a toaster oven large enough to fit the case into and shut the door ? Or do you not worry about being able to shut the door ?
Gonna go to GoodWill today and hopefully find me a toaster oven , since the wife won't let me use our oven in the house :-)
Thanks,
D.

its a good idea that your wife will not let you use the oven in your house,if you did use it,you would or could release toxins into the house or oven from the parts.

I was just kiddin, I wouldn't have used it anyhow. I have rebuilt a motorcycle in the house before but getting it out the door was a chore. Now I have moved onto a 40X100 shop that foots my bill for all my needs .
I did go to the GoodWill store today and picked up a good working large toaster oven for $2.99 + tax. I tried it out before I bought it .

Now, How long do I "toast" the crankcase half so I can remove the bearings ?

Thanks,
D.

Just "toasted" the cases on 400 degrees for about 15 minutes and the bearings slid right out . Now, what is the proceedure for installing bearings ? Can you beleive that I actually enjoyed removing these bearings ? Thanks so Much for the help on this project guys.

Heat the cases up and drop the new bearings in - chill the bearings if you wish - steel doesn't expand or contact much though .

I leave my crank in the fridge overnight, and heat my bearings on a pan on the grille. slide them together then freeze the whole assembly. heat the cases with a propane torch and insert the cold crank.

if you use a grille you must have a pan under the bearings or they will get destroyed.

When installing the bearing on the counterbalance shaft , do I freeze the shaft and bearing ? Just the shaft, just the bearing ?
Heat the bearing and freeze the shaft ?
?????
Thanks,
D.
