If you take the side panel off the pull start side and look at the motor, there is a bolt on a "block off plate" on the top side of the engine. Anyone know what this is for?

I am hoping its a place to mount a temp gauge

Ohyeh this is on a Sportsman 450 2006

i think you are refering to the bleed bolt for the water jacket in the head of the engine.the older models do not have this.it is there to bleed air out of the water jackets in the head.
