Oil in sportsman 500

Default Oil in sportsman 500

I just got my first atv. I bought a polaris 500 sportsman. I want to know what weight of oil do you add.

Should be 0w40 full synthetic.

Depends on the weather conditions you ride in. Your owners manual should have a chart that explains what oils will cover what temperture conditions you ride in.

even if you ride in cold wheather i wouldnt go lower then 0-30 synth. but should be fine w/ 0-40. just make sure it full synth.

Ahh, Maybe I should recomend you red the break in procedure in the manual.

Try a search, there has been tons of info on the subject in the past.

Polaris guys are inteligent.

in the book it just says used oil API CERTIFIED SH. That is if i do not want to use the polaris oil.

the mobil 1 exceeds the sh rating

some say to use regular 10-30 oil for a few hundred miles after the break in oil, to help seat the rings, prior to putting in the slick stuff

Amsoil 0-40 synthetic. Its kind of expensive, but you know what they say.................

ive had extremely bad luck with amsoil... i have done deep research on amsoil and come to the conclusion that it is not better then mobil oil or the polaris stuff... in my case it is worse... i have had two 2-stroke engines fail using the 2-stroke amsoil and have had 1 four stroke engine with bearings gone out using amsoil, couindence... i think NOT

in my opinion the stuff is cheap and over priced all you pay for is the "name"
