What is the best setup for a winch on a 2001 scrambler 500. I have been thinking about a rear mounted winch. I was wondering how a rear mounted versus a front will hold up to mud and water. I am new to the atv deal and info would be helpful. Thanks.

 

if you look at my page there is a pic of a front bumper that looks real good that a winch mounts to. i just can not find one like it. it would be a great set up i think as long as you do not care about all the extra wieght in the front.

 

ScramblerXrated has got some pictures of his setup. I borrowed his idea for me old Scrammy (Thanks X) and it worked great, and kept the winch up high and out of the mud, just a thought

 

yes the winch under the hood has worked out great for me. keeps the winch and line clean.

No but it's still at the dealer I could go and grab some pics. Mine wasn't as clean of an install as yours, I should have measured a bit more before welding, but a little plastic trimming never hurt anyone lol and way better than being pulled out by another bike or being sqrewed when by yourself
