Default Sportsman 700 Very Hard Starting

I posted before but I wasn't sure at the time if my2004 700 was EFI or not but recently brought it home and found out it wasn't. It is a bear to start all of a sudden and I end up having to use Ether to get it to start. I will appreciate any help you all can give me, I tried to locate my last post on here thru the search but it couldn't locate it

I woldn't use either. Couple questions does it run good once its started? Have you changed the spark plugs? Had it sat for awhile when you couldn't get it started? How is the air filter? Does the choke pull out smothly?

I have had alot of problems with my 2002 sp 700 and would like to help if you have more information.

Compression
fuel issue
air box
electrical

Hi,,thanks for the reply. Once it starts it will sputter lightly if you try to throttle it up just a bit but then it smooths out and runs like a top. About not running it a lot, yes it is usually a week if not a month between starts. The choke pulls out fairly easy enough but another friend told me that was what it sounded like to him was the choke not closing all the way. And yes the air filter is clean. Thanks for the help in advance !

Sounds like the carb could be gummed up.

if it had a choke its got to be a carb. if you leave the choke out to long it will start to stumble and die. when you pull the choke out it should fire up w/in a few seconds and run at a little higher idle until you put the choke back in.

Yes, up till this year it would start right up when I would pull out the choke and fire it up but now it takes forever and like I said I have to spray starter fluid into the carb.

http://www.micapeak.com/info/oiled.html

For those of you who dont want to read that entire article.

It pretty much explains what the different parts of the oil rating means.

Example: 0w40

The 0 represents the lowest viscosity rating of the oil will reach thermally.

The 40 Represents the maximum viscosity the oil will reach thermally.

0 is like having the consistency of water and 100 being like cold maple syrup (slightly exagurated)

The article also explains how pour points work, which is Extremely significant when it comes to starting your quad (or any other vehicle) in the winter.

i think you post that to the wrong post lol. ive doen it before. chances are the choke or idle circuit, maybe the piolet is a little plugged. either way i would put a new fuel filter on and maybe clean the carb to rule it out.
