Not to be the bearer of bad news but I have totally shredded 2 belts on my 2002 700. My firend had the very same machine and he was chasing cattle in South Dakota when he put his 700 it up to the handle bars. The clutch sheaves were so hot that they cracked from the cold water. I personaly saw this. My 02 has the new clutch cover with the red drain plug.

Both belts shredded at full speed going down the trail. The first one I had to bring in for waranty in a zip-loc bag.

well my 02 500 didnt have the drain. i think maybe it was on either the bigger bores or maybe the later 02's i said i really didnt know for sure. thats a bummer that the belts blew. must have had a reason maybe defective or out of alinement. i had a belt strink b4 but never break.

I broke a belt on the second time out on the ol' Scram. Got into some deep stuff on the first ride and never drained it (Didn't know it had a drain at first) and the second ride she shredded on a gravel road at about 45mph.
