Default Mods for a 2004 600 twin?

I read as much as I could on this site without signing up and found there to be quite a bit of information so I joined.

Have any of you modified a 600 twin? I'm talking pipe, jet kit and filter. If so, do temperature fluctuations mess with the power? I live in canada.

I would do the jet kit and filter first. The best bang for your buck would be a clutch kit. Putting in a kit like EPI or Heelklicker will really wake up this machine. I also changed over to the NGK Iridium plugs. Believe it or not, I found they do make a differance. I got my kit from Royal Distributing, and it was the EPI one. From what I have read, a pipe doesn't make that much of a diff for the money. Just my 2 cents.

Did the clutch kit affect your top end performance?

Ya, it was about 5 mile an hour faster!! Then, when I went to my mudlite XL tires, I was still over 60 mph. Higher engagement, but gets up to speed way faster due to the better belt grip. Oh and by the way, 2000 miles on the factory belt!! Best $300.00 I ever spent.

I checked out Royaldistributing and I saw 4 different versions of the clutch kit for the 600 twin. Any idea which one would best suit my bike?

If you are using your bike for trail riding and some mudding and want to keep the top end go with the sport utility kit. That's the one I have. If you are using it for work, or you are running one size bigger tire, or need extra pulling power, go with the utility one. If you are going to run like 28 inch tires and play in the mud all the time, go with the big foot kit. You will lose alot of top end with this last kit. It is all up to you to decide, you know how and where you want to ride. Good luck and let me know which one you decide to go with.

I would go with the sport utility kit for sure. However, I just did a bunch of reading on the Heelclicker kits. What do you think about that choice?

The heelklicker is good, but you will have to play around with the adjustable weights to get it right and do some testing. The reason I went with the EPI unit is because they have done the testing for you. You just install it and go better and faster!! The heelclicker allows for more fine tuning, but i just want to ride. EPI worked for me, but if you like to play and fine tune, maybe the Heelclicker is the one for you. I have heard that when dialed in the heelcliker is the better unit, and if you sell the bike you can take it out and use it on your next Polaris if it is a different engine size. Dalton also makes a good kit. You can swap out your primary spring with a different one from Polaris and get some good results too. There are dudes on here that could help you with what color springs to use. What ever kit you choose you will like it. Ride on brother!!
