Explorer 400 clutch problems
#3
Sorry, i must have had a brain let down, I meant 300 miles, not hours. And it's not shreading or chunking them, it is creating fine rubber powder. The belt doesn't have any chunks out of it. It looks fine, just narrower.

check clutch offset, motor mounts, bushings in both clutches, buttons in both clutches. probably need a rebuild. and also keep in mind that you have almost the same amount of horsepower out of a 500 lb machine (xplorer) than you with your 700 lb 500 sportsman. any speeds 0 to 15 mph use low range and above 15 high. You may have a groove starting in your drive clutch. I have a 99 xplorer 400 and love it.

Check your secondary clutch it could have a worn helex or buttons. Also make sure your air ducts are not plugged.Sounds like you have a heat build up situation
