Default Radiator problem (Sp450) unintentionally Self-inflicted

All-

Well my Dad and I wanted to geek out today
abit and install my new Glacier Plow II system
on my quad and after getting thru Step 1:
Install existing bolts here (Pic A) then using existing
bolts install mount brace etc. etc. well thats when...
Boom, gush of Antifreeze came pouring out while
attempting to jockey up the front outer cover protector
plate (lack of real name) to even up with the screw holes.

It would so appear that thru the screw hole is the radiator
whereby one of the coils or such was punctured with my
flat head screw driver, looking thru the whole the puncture
appears between a couple widen coils, bottom near corner.
After immediate gush, no more leaking, strange? No, the
engine was not running, whew!

Question, am I looking at having to buy a new Rad or can those
sealers work? Don't know the true extint of damage unless I
start removing all these plates, covers, brush guard etc. For
fear of engine or more RAD damage I did not run the engine
after this event.

Any good technical advice, appreciated here, and thanks
in advance! Yes, I will probably get a dump of snow NOW
with a broker down Quad and still boxed plow system
awaiting its assembly.

Yours truly,
R'

rtick, take it out to see the extent of the damage done. if its in the coils in self you might be able to either have it recoiled at a radiator shop, or if its possiabke you might be able to have the hole soldered. ive done this w/ a car raditor but i dont kowif it can be done to a alumimum rad. nto to scare ya but a one goes for around $327.00 hope you can fix it. maybe some one that sealer in a can can work??? good luck.

now why would you want to put some gunk(sealer) in the rad ....... your atv is fairly new i would pull the rad , out it cant be that hard to do and take it to your rad repair shop... i punctured the rad in my mud truck and took it to WELLER in grand rapids mi. and the repaired it for lesss than $50.00 .. if you put gunk (sealer )in it you will never know when you will be stranded, have you ever tried pushing one of these things .. if you use the sealer you may just get that chance.......... REPAIR IT CORRECTLY.. i work as a engine tech and have seen pluged rad, pluged heatercores, and even plugged cooloant passages in the block as a result of bars stop leak and alumaseal...DONT DO IT .....

Okay this is great, thanks for all the replys. No
I don't feel too comfortable using some type
of sealer either but again this is my first time exp.
with this sorta thing. Yea, Stendori I was pricing
some after market seeing priced from $350 to
over $450, not cheap and I don't have alot of
welding choices, went thru that drill over Christmas
time for needing a cracked Honda Fourtrax frame
welded, ho humm.

Next question, what aftermarket Rad's do you
all recommend? What are others with Sportsmans
using? Would I void my Polaris warrenty if I run
aftermarket RAD on my Quad?

Sorry for the long thread and I appreciate everyone's
insights as I value you'alls opinions (Learned alot from
the Polaris forums)

Much obliged!

r, did you pull it off yet to find the hole? im going to say unless you puncherd the plastic cores, you can have them fixed w/ soldering or welding what have you. sometimes you can even have a small section pinched off and sealed and still use it. i would take it to a rad. shop first b4 you shel out that kind of money for a new one.

If they are still under warranty, I would contact my dealer and ask them who they use for rad. repairs. But first I would see where my leak is first. A hole in the rad. would leak till the level was below the hole, but a hole in a hose might only leak under pressure. Top off your coolant. If it is not leaking, than start and let your quad run for a while and see if it starts leaking, be careful as the coolant might get hot pretty quickly.

No I haven't pulled it out yet, I need some good weather
to do all of this as I do not yet have a garage. But
I will see where this goes, still not sure about a Rad
shop around here, mostly chain service centers
and many dishonest. I am not going to spend a
$100 bucks on a repair rather have that go
to even an upgraded radiator. But the still
investigating, after I pull this thing I will update.

Thanks everyone for your insights/suggestions
(rdeeno) will do that too..8)
