Maybe check your voltage as its dying, It would have to be a good short directly to the frame to kill the battery in 1 minute with it running, and I think you would see some smoke for sure. I would swap switches and go from there, especially if you cant get high beam at all.
I don't think it has to kill the battery.....Just drop below 12.5 volts will shut the quad off!!!!!!
..........Caper..........

my batt is weak when i turn my key on it will tell me something like 11.2 volts but still starts .. my service manual says mine puts out 240w@3000rpm and the low beams draw 27watts a piece donts eam like that would kill it , will it run w/ the batt disconected or is that bad for quads , ive seen it done on may cars.

Don't try to run anything with a computer with out a battery!!!!!!! The battery acts as a buffer to control voltage spikes, and without a battery it could fry anything electrical, lights, pcm etc The computers in most cars are VERY sensitive and anything over 18 volts could cause serious damage

i can tell you from experince that the 450's wont run w/out a battery for sure.unhooked it and isntanly killed the bike. seems like when you plug in the bulbs to complete the circuit is when the trouble starts. you know looking at the wire harness blow up(not alot of help) i see that it has a couple of fuseable links and resitors. dont know if these could be an issue or not.

I just sent the dealer that same e-mail.......I don't want to damage hers if I have something wrong that damaged mine....I will see if he replies back to me......I want to do that........He gave me a price of around 130.00 canadian. He said in the e-mail he is replacing olot of these...I asked him only on the 2006 450's or other models also........Wait and see I guess........I also asked him where is the ECM located on the quad?...Do you know where to find it???....Thanks...Caper.......

hey Caper - hows it going? Did you try just replacing the bulbs with your wifes bike to try those? On my Porsche I had a bad bulb that made all the turn signals not work. Once I replaced the one bulb they all worked right. wierd but it worked
