2006 Polaris 450 vs 500 H.O. (carb)
#12
Hi,
I am actually shipping the Sportman that I choose (450 or 500) down from Ontario. The 450 is over $8000 here. It is only $7100 plus shipping from Ontario and the 500 is $7500 plus shipping. No free accessories are included. Only problem is that I can only get a Blue 450. They only have yellow 500's left.

Not putting the 450 down, as I have heard no problems thus far. I dont know why polaris just didnt put the 450 stickers on a 500 carb and call the new EFI the 500. If they wer going to drop the 500 carb anyway.

I ride with a guy with a 06 SP 500 EFI,, He has no more pick up and speed than me. EFI is for not rejecting for altitude riding, but it sure does not produce more power or speed unless my friends ATV is broken? I would compare a 450 SP with the SP 500 (non H.O,s) even than I think it would miss that extra 44cc. Compared to the SP500 H.O it's out 44cc,a high duration cam and a 40mm carb. (vs 34mm) Just think of a SP500 H.O as a heavily modded out SP450 in other words.

My cousin has an 06 sp450 and my buddy has a 1998 sp500 (non ho). The old 500 takes the 450 off the line everytime and beats it to top speed. They both topout at about same. The 450 does not even compare to the old non HO sp500. The non ho sp500 were prettty quick off the line due to not having ebs. My buddies 98 model was almost dead even off the line with my 05 sp500ho till about 30mph. Then the HO starts to pull away. There is no replacement for displacement and the 450 is down 44cc's rather it's against an ho or not.

take it from a lil 400 owner - get the largest cc bike possible,if you dont use all the power , ya still have it!!! i bought a 400 thinking it would be alright, it is dont get me wrong .. i should have sheeled out the extra $$$$ so i did not have to try to get th e power out of my lil 400... with the rideing i do i should have a ltest a 600 ( live and learn).. like i said my 400 gets it done and always makes it home - but it would be nice to have more power to play with....
