I did take the pulser sensor off if that is the thing in the left top corner underneth the rope houseing cover I shined the contacts up on it but that was'nt it at least it did'nt fix the problem. the battery icon does flash once in awhile on my speedo meter readout but my wheeler always seems to start fine if it sets for a week or so so I figured it must be chargeing the battery. I was wounder if I pull the stator off and checked it where it makes contact u think it could be dirty or rusty the pulser thing was rusty to befor I cleaned it up what ya think.

stendori, I don't work for a dealer. I'm an automation engineer and I automate very large engines (1,000 to 20,000 HP) and work on wiring and computers. I have always worked on my own toys whenever I can.
HotRod35, If your battery is charging and your engine's getting the proper spark, everything under the pull-start cover is fine. What are you talking about when you mention the pulser sensor? Does your 2004 have EFI? Under the rope housing, you should have a CDI trigger coil. Is this what you are calling the pulser sensor?
Do you have a digital volt meter? If you do, hook it to the battery and check the voltage when the engine is revved up. It should be 13.8 to 14.5 VDC.
Another thing you can check, follow the wires from the pull-rope starter housing, up over the starter to check for wire insulation chaffing. I did have this problem on my 500 that caused it to sputter everytime I went through a puddle.

sorry freedom, i thought the wiring knowledge you had you must have got it from a dealer. the pulser coil he is refering too is what i found on the parts breakdown. no its not a efi. the only other parts is the stator and cdi box. there is a (3087196 Switch, Magnetic ) which i have no idear in what it does. i guess i would call a dealer and ask them what powers the rpm signal.

from stendori " there is a (3087196 Switch, Magnetic ) which i have no idear in what it does. i guess i would call a dealer and ask them what powers the rpm signal."
Part # 3087169 is the CDI Box - Located under the hood.
Part #3085521 is called Switch, Magnetic - This is the starter solenoid located in front of the battery.
