sounds like it lost signal form the where it reads the rpms. im not sure if it picks up coil signal or off the crank maybe someone else knows where. i'ld trace wires back to that area, see if one is broke. just a thought.

I was thinking maybe the stator . because I got water in the rope pullstarter houseing awhile back I been thinking maybe I needed to pull the stator off and clen the contact points up on it maybe that will work.

i dont know if the (3085360 Coil, Pulser ) has any thing to do w/ it or not. it could get it from the cdi box as well i guess. hopefully the book will tell something.

i have studyed the book and do not see anything that has to to with the tach or hr meter... i have a full wiring diagram and realy do not see anything... it would help to know what senses this .. i would guess the stater or coil.... if you throw an idea out i can try to trace it... if not i can fax the diagram tomorrow.. i have a scanner too..

On a 2002 Sportsman the tack signal comes from the charge coil. If your battery is charging then the charge coil is OK.
On a 2002 Sportsman the Yellow/red wire is spliced near the voltage regulator. You should find a plug connector on the Yellow/red wire between the voltage regulator and the speedometer. If you check this connector with a meter you should have AC above 12 volts.
