the higher the nuber is most liely for hotter engines. i run 15-50 semi synthic in my vmax which is a newer oil that some racers use. this engine is known for running hot, but in this case the trans/clutch run in the same oil w/ good results. oil is all about the same, its the additives that makes the differnce. my .02

Actually...I priced the AMSOIL oil here and with the filter is was cheaper to buy the KIT from Polaris......I also got the two washers with the kit one for the crankcase plug, and the other for the plastic oil tank drain plug........So what do you guys do for the washers....Keep using them over and over again?.......In the Polaris kit I got three bottles of 0W-40 syn filter and the three washers.for $36.99.....To buy the AMSOIL it was $9.99 per bottle(X3) and $10.99 for the filter....AND NO WASHERS HERE!!!!...Caper

on my honda i use [castrol 4t 4-stroke motorcycle oil 20w-50] it ran better then the factory specs of 10w-40 at high rpms but is harb to start at temps below 20f.i got 4.2 quarts for a littel over $9. the hard starts are no big deals i dont always ride in the snow because it snowed only 2 inchs the whole winter. i ride in snow thats a min of 3in.soon im putting it in my magnum when i take it out for a wash.
is the trans oil the same as the motor oil i know in the sports quads like my honda the trans use the motor oil.also how long before you should change the oil filter and the trans if its diff then the motor oil

Ok, I need to add a few things here
First.....Oils are not the same!!!!! You will see this in the pred, when you have your tranny and engine together in the same oil. It will shift much easier using different oil.
Next, Many of us do change our oil quite often. On mine, I change it every 10-15hrs(cost nearly 30 bucks).
Also, besides Amsoil(good oil)........look into Bel-ray(they have great oil)......I used to run it in gearboxes on my old sport
