missing snaprings on cv joint
I have a 2001 scrambler 500 4x4 that i just bought and the right front axle came out of the cv joint (which is the first mystery).
when i took it apart to replace the ripped boot there was no snapring on the end of the axle, actually it doesnt even have a notch in the end for one to clip onto, nor any groove in the splines on the end or further up. I thought maybe the groove got ground off the end of the axle, so i removed the other axle and it looked the same, no groove or notch.
is this normal for the later models or are these axle just old and worn?
also, how did the axle come out in the first place? doesn't the A-arm keep the axle in the joint? i know in tight turns there might be a more of a chance of the axle popping out, but i still dont see how it could have happened even without snaprings....
any ideas?
oh, here's another good one...when i make a tight left turn my throttle increases, it must be
stretching the cable somehow?
thanks guys!
