Default oil level rising

The oil level in my bike has risen a little. I checked the old threads on the problem and found out the manual says your'e suppose to run engine at idle for 20 seconds before checking it.that seemed to do the trick.the question I have is there were alot of people saying to smell the oil and see if it smelled like gas. Why would they be asking if the oil smelled like gas?

If you have gas leaking into the cylinder and seeping past the rings it can cause the oil level to rise up on the stick.

Blow by past worn piston rings during the compression stroke. During the compression stroke on a four stroke it is compressing the fuel/air mixture prior to being ignited by the spark and it is under pretty high pressure at this point.

The reason they tell you to smell the oil is that there are only two things that can make your oil level rise.
1. Anti freeze leaking past a gasket or crack into crank case ( complicated fix )
2. Gas leaking past needle and seat into combustion chamber past rings and into crankcase.( easy fix)

You need to try and isolate which it is: by smelling and by observing coolant levels

as stated you do need to run the engine first and then check the oil. wierd way of doing it but oh well works. if you had a serve flooded bike it would but gas in the base and make the oil rise and smell of gas. pray you never have antifreeze in your engine as zbart says, compl. and expensive.

Yea I just had the mechanical water pump seal changed last week.Thats why I was worried..thinking maybe while the seal was leaking it caused the oil seal to go bad.But wouldnt the dealer have noticed the oil seal if there was a problem with it when they were replacing the mechanical seal on the water pump?........anyway if there was coolant in the oil wouldnt it be milky............the consistancy of the oil seems fine.Ill know after I replace the cv boot so I can ride it again and check it out better........One problem at a time...lol

Would this worn out piston cause an increase in fuel consumption?
