Default Starting problem on 2003 700

I put a new petcock on my 700 because it was leaking. Rode it around the block, about 3-4 miles , ran great and no leaking. The next day I tried to start it and nothing. Checked the petcock and its got gas going thru it. Took the air filter off and checked to see if the carb had gas going to it and it blew gas all over the hand. Replaced both plugs and still nothing. Had battery tested and it was good. What could it be? Any ideas out there?

I took out one of the plugs to see iif I was getting a spark, and it looks like I am not. What do I check next? What kind of tests can I do on the coil?, rectifier etc?

Unusuall to have just changing the petcock then a problem arises.
Dry plug may mean no fuel mix is getting there.
Something is clogged, jets maybe, somewhere in the fuel regulation system

I went thru and cleaned out the carb and ruled that it is getting gas. I think it was just a coincidence that this happened after I changed out the petcock. I do not think it is getting spark. What can I check next and how?

If you are not getting a spark the plug should show signs of being damp with gas.

Pull the plug re-attach plug to the plug wire, lay the plus back on the head away from the hole and view the electrodes of the plug as you try to start the engine.

Look to see if there is a deep blue clean arc directly between the electrodes of the spark plug.

If you have spark turn everything off.
Try putting a short teaspoon measure of gas into the spark plug hole, replace the plug and wire and try to start the engine again. See if it responds.

Ouch did not see that in your first thread sorry.
Do you have a repair manual you may need to find an electrical schematic for your machine.
See if by disturbing the hardware when moving things around if by chance a wire loosened and during the ride and getting back home it finally disconnected thru vibration...
I believe in coinsidence but this is rare.

Well you may need some instruments like a volt ohm meter, prefer an analog meter so you can see the needle bounce.
Test the kill switch circuit.
Rough test just to see activity.
See if the wire to the coil from ths CDI is pulsing some voltage when cranking the engine with the starter.
The needle on the voltmeter should bounce.
Check all wires attached to the CDI
Assuming there is pulse
Need to find Specs on resistance measurement of the coil.
Assume no pulse Continue to see if the CDI unit is out to lunch.
Check Pulse Pickup unit at the stator.

Hope this helps a little.

Hey Tommya300, appreciate your help. Can you tell me where the CDI is on my machine? Where is the stator? What are all the electrical items underneath the rear fender?
