Just wondering why it is atv mfg.'s won't list their machine's hp or any kind of power rating(bhp, etc.) for that matter? Are they really that concerned of how it might effect their sales? MC mfg.'s seem to have no problem listing their power ratings. In fact, at least for MC's, it probably improve's their sales. What's the inside on this? Just curious.

The horsepower is listed on the "Manufacturer's Certificate of Origin," however, I don't know if that figure is horsepower calculated by formula, SAE brake horsepower, rear wheel horsepower, or what. However, the documentation with each new ATV, either transferred to the customer or sent to the DMV for title/license, contains a horsepower figure.

Thank-you ledebuhr1 and Diogenes for your input.

Boy, they sure don't advertise the power like they do everything else. Makes you wonder why? I looked at all my info. that came with my H.O. and could not find anything on HP - Title; Product ID Sheet; Proof of Ownership Affidavit; nothing with HP on it;

38 hp is what you say, ledebuhr1. Does this mean then, that the SP500 prior to the H.O.'s are around 32 hp, since Polaris claims the H.O.'s have 20% more---that's what the math says? I wonder what the SP700 will have? Any guesses?

Generally, the Manufacturer's Certificate of Origin must be filed with the DMV in all states with title requirements; chances are, yours was sent to the DMV by the dealership before you had a chance to review it. Your dealer will probably show you a certificate for a new machine like yours with the horsepower blank filled in by the factory.

As mentioned, I don't know how the manufacturer arrives at this figure; nevertheless, a horsepower figure appears on the Manufacturer's Certificate of Origin for a Motor Vehicle.

Suzuki,Kawasaki,Yamaha,and Honda all show crankshaft horsepower on the MSO.Polaris does not.I think that DOT only requires foreign manufacturers to show HP.
