Default Submarined 400, what now???

I let my buddy ride my girlfriend's 400L yesterday and he ran it off into some water, deep water, over the gas tank... frikin idiot.
Anyway, I towed it back to the truck, popped the plug, got alot of water out of the engine. There is quite a bit of sand in the carburator so there must be some in the cylinder also, and probably the crank case. Is there a good way to flush out these 2-strokes and is there a drain plug on the case. Havent had a good chance to look at it yet its still morning.
Many thanks

sand in the engine is real bad. what ever you do dont even try to start it until it gets cleaned out real good. if there is a drain plug(probably is) it will be in the front of the engine maybe under the exhaust area. i dont what other people would do, in this case but my self w/out pulling the engine apart i would try runing some kerosine thru (if it indeed has a drain) to help flush out the sand. i dont mean start and run it thru. hopefully some one esle has differnt idears for ya. better check all the fluids in it for water as well. they dont make good submarines.

That's about what I was thinking, I have some kerosene too. I can't believe he drove off in there. He was following another guy that had never rode either and they both went in it. So I told them "if the water is that dark and there are three guys fishing on the bank, IT MIGHT BE DEEP".... guess I told them too late.

That stinks man. I hope you get everything worked out. I hope your friend is owning up and helping you trouble shoot or pay for this.

This is why I don't let anyone ride my 4 wheeler.
Short story- My good friend had taken a snowmobile for a all day test ride, that was the most expensive ride he had ever taken. He wrecked it and did the right thing- he forked over the 4k he was going to buy it for.

Good luck again.

If my memory serves me well, the drain is on the bottom of the crankcase. It is a 3/8 bolt which accepts a phillips screwdriver. There is a hole in the skid plate directly below the bolt. This hole is big enough to get water out of the crankcase but small enough that getting sand out might be a challange.

Before you stat flushing the crankcase, remove the exhaust and flush the top of the piston and cyclinder.
