95 sportsman 400 question

Default 95 sportsman 400 question

when it gets warmed up after driving it awhile its hard to start, it starts back up when it cool down fine... where should my buddy start ? it is a 2 stroke.

dirty carb or possible rebuild???

just a guess, but see if theres any pressure in the gas tank by releasing the gas cap. if there is maybe the vent lines are plugged or crimped and it starts to vabor lock kinda. if the carb was dirty it would start hard all the time.

thanks was kinda thinking that but thought i would ask because im sure this has happened to somebody else on here..we will check for that when my buddy gets it.

I would start with a compression test. They get hard to start when you get down below 90 psi. Also, does it run fine after it starts? Does it run fine the whole time until you shut it down? If it starts boggin some or starving for fuel while running then it is possible that crank seals are bad. It could be sucking air through the seals or an intake leak. But in most cases it would run bad all the time if that were the case but the compression would still be good.
