Hawkey 06'... Engine rev's but VERY little power to the tires... (like a slipping clutch)
#1
So my wife and I went through a large puddle. (not large enough to suck in water to the engine) The puddle was about 1.5 feet deep and just about covered the entire tire... But not quite.
We have two hawkeye's, mine is completely fine, and went through with no issues at all... I went into the puddle slowly.
My wife's Hawkeye has issues now. She went into the puddle quickly and splashed water like wings to each side. Her quad now will not move forward or backward. The engine rev's just fine, but her quad will go about five miles an hour at wide open throttle....
It acts like any car would if you push the clutch pedal almost to the floor...
Any ideas on what is going on with this?>
Thanks in advance!

Is the hawkeye an auto?
If so check the bottom of the clutch housing and see if there is a drain plug if so pull it to drain it.
That is what mine did when I had oil seep into the clutch housing and it made the oil fall out of the clutch pack

Thanks for the quick reply's already....
@ caperinmuskoka - What? You mean that clear tube under the seat? Isn't that for the carb? What is Caper? *confused*
@ trailblazermudrunner - The clutch cover, is this a simple removal?
@ ctateusa1 - Yes, the Hawkeye is an automatic... Good call on the plug, I'll check for a plug tonite. If water drains from this plug, should I have the bike serviced? Do I need to worry about rust on the inside of the clutch? What about packing grease in the proper areas, stuff like that....

i know with my traiblazer that there are screws that hold on mine and is easy to remove and if it is set up like mi tb u will just have to make sure u got te top of the clutch cover where it goes into the breather.....now the bike didnt stall out in the water right??? if not just pull the cover off check the belt...let it dry for an hour or two and put it back on....i dont greas the clutch on mi becuase when its cold the greas hardens up and makes it harder for the clutch weights to move in and out.....but if u pull the clutch cover off and water comes out that was probley ur problem....the other greas fitting im not sure about becauce i havent seen one of these bikes befor so maybe some one eles can help u there

My wife has a hawkeye and this happens every once in awhile.
The hawkeye's air filter intake pipe (for a lack of a better word) is really poorly designed and water can easily get up into it...when that happens the air filter would get soaked - therefore it would top out at about 10mph until it dried back out. It will rev just fine until it is under load and then it bogs down. I am going to reroute the airpipe before this season, but I always end up carrying another air filter just in case.

The clear plastic tube is the drain for the air box..Check that also!!!
The belt cover just has the red plug to thread out...check that also!!

Gotcha! "Caper"... =)
Air box is dry as a bone, so is the air filter... Like I said, engine runs fine... Engine does 'not' bog down. The clutch is slipping.
I will try to look for plugs and also pull the cover off the clutch tonite. I am out to go buy a manual now so I don't screw up!
Thanks guys!!!
