ATV Shoot Out
#1
I read the same magazine articles that you guys read, and some of the crap they come up with is a joke. I have mentioned having some sort of shoot out before, and did not get much response We have a 4 day weekend coming up at Fun Wheeler Park in Longview Texas. I suggest we do the following and report all of the results back here.
Here are the different events and how the comparisons will be made.
First event: Drag race. FWP has a sand drag with lights. We time all the bikes and report the results here. This will include all bikes including sport bikes. The participants are racing against the clock... not each other.
2nd Event: Enduro track made of jumps and turns... this event is usually just for Sport bikes at the track but I think it would be interest to see how the utilities do also. Lap times to be reported back here.
3rd Event: Barrel races... just like at a Rodeo.
4th Event: Mud Races: Because the mud races depends so much on experience, I suggest each rider runs the track by themselves in a times event like all the rest. I am not talking about a pond race either. I am talking about a course designed to take you through Water Mocassin Slew.
As of right now, we have the follwoing bikes represented:
SP500
Grizzly
Rancher 4X4
SP335
Rubicon
It would be nice if we could have some participants representing every Bike by every manufacturer. I am sure that Saturday will be a busy day at the park and we should be able to get 20-30 people to participate; however, it would be nice to have more people from the forums to be there to help report the results.
After all of the events are over, we can take a trip around the park and report back who made it and who had to get pulled out... or rather how many times people had to get pulled out.
Tell me if you are interested in participating or reading the results on here.

I like the idea but I live in Sidney, Oh. I hope people from you area respond and help you out. I don't like "I put a big add in your mag so rate my new quad high" shoot outs now either. But I do like fasternu's idea to, maybe "dirtwheels" will pickup the tap and send us all.
Have fun!

What is the deal here??? No one from East Texas or around that area has replied, or wanted to come down and ride. I know for sure I will be participating. Come on, we need more riders to join, it will be fun. I will also be pulling everyone out of the Mud holes. lol All I have to say is, If I get stuck, Lord help us all.(20 tow straps, DC-9 Cat Dozer, about 6 four-wheelers and a few people should do it)

If Dirt Whels wanted to cover it, I would be willing to wear a helmet. I do not oppose wearing a helmet when riding fast in races like the barrel race or the sportbike track. I will probably wear a helmet on my next trip to Lake Greeson and WolfPen Gap. I just see no need to wear a helmet while mudding when you are more likely to be snake bitten than have a reck that may result in injury.

Greg, I have to disagree with that statement. My helmet is always on when I ride. Doesn't matter what your doing or where your riding. A throttle could get stuck on or someone else not paying attention could hit you or a front leakage could break or who knows what. Always better safe then sorry.
