Default Oil in Antifreeze NEED HELP

I have a 2004 Polaris 700 sportsman. I was leaking antifreeze out the weep hole, therfore i replaced the seal on the water pump. After i put the new seal in, no more leaking antifreeze, however i noted oil in the radiator and antifreeze in the oil. I am so pissed right now and clueless. Did i install it wrong and what do you think could be the problem now?

No i have not had a problem until i replaced the water seal. I did not use the polaris tool they recomended to unistall and install. The new seal went in kind of crooked and finally went in straight. I am cluless.

Default Oil in Antifreeze NEED HELP

I just did this same fix on my 2002 sp 700 so bear with me. I also had both coolant in my oil and oil in my coolant. I first thought it was the head gasket so I replaced that. Then I replaced all of my waterpump seals.

1. the outside gasket.
2. the internal mechanical seal, which seats against the impeller so I replaced that too.
3. Behind the mechanical seal is another oil seal. That is the one that was bad on mine. You have to pull the flywheel and remove that outside engine cover to pull it and replace it. More work than its worth.

Any questions let me know I just re-ringed it and replaces all of the seals in January.

Your oil seal is bad....When you changed the water pump seal and it went on crooked Ill bet the shaft was bent and the oil seal went out too..............Im not a 100% sure but that would be my guess...Take it to the dealer.

there is no need to take it to the dealer. if you know your way around a tool box, you should be able to do all the work yourself. the only "specialty" tool that you will need will be a harmonic balancer puller to pull the flywheel.

replace the waterpump seal again, and the oil seal behind that. it's likely that the oil seal was bad, or went bad soon after you changed the waterpump seal.

theres also a special tool w/small fingers that grab the mechanical seal to pull it out of the pump......if you dont use it when you pull the seal youre taking a chance of creating more problems.

pulling the flywheel and side engine case will delete the need for that specialty tool. if the case is off, the mechanical seal can be pounded out, and the new one placed back in, also the oil seal. then put the case back on the engine, and re-assemble.

Default Oil in Antifreeze NEED HELP

I'm having the same problem with coolant in the oil. I called the dealer and he said for me to take the water pump cover off (so I don't get charged the labour) so he can see the seals and propeller and let me know if it's the problem. If not he said it's likely the head gasket. Will I need a new seal if I take the old one off the water pump cover?
