Houngdog that belt size is for all polaris atv's from '85 through '01 without EBS. So it should fit your magnum like a glove.

You raise a good point, MNT, regarding Polaris or any belt-driven machine.

I do not think wide-open low-range 4WD operation would pose any undue stress on a gear-driven machine; the primary (centrifugal) clutch would only grip tighter at high rpm; the secondary (disk) clutch would be under low stress in low range.

Regardless, the characteristics of any given machine must be taken into account for the operational task it's asked to perform.

I learned from snowmobiles to steer clear of Dayco belts. That is the only kind of belt I've ever exploded into little bits, the largest being about 2 inches long.

 

Get the xpedtion 425 4x4. I Have rode in snow 13 inches up hill, over ruff terrain, etc. I have to keep it in 4x4 i can run about third gear which is fast enough. For up to 100 miles a day ABSOULTLETLY NO PROBLEMS WHAT SO EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 

Okay, went looking for the gatorback belt, and the sled guy says "what?" so I find out that the proper name is the Goodyear Powerstreak. thru cross-referencing, found that the part number is #71113. Then the guy says that Goodyear sucks and stick to a purpose built company like Dayco. they apparently make the stock Polaris belts as well. Here I go again, decisions, decisions. Incidentally, I HAD to peg the throttle in AWD and in low gear, just to crawl thru the deep snow. It only cost me a belt, so big deal.

 

So is your quad still sitting in the snowbank?

 

Your dealer does'nt make any sence, the goodyear belts are far superior than the dayco thats in pieces inside your belt housing.

Well, I got a brand new, same Dayco I fried, sitting in the shop awaiting the snowbound quad, I'm just debating whether to pick up the Goodyear, return the Dayco, and ride on. Well, its a Saturday tomorrow, and I'm getting a little on the impatient side, thinking I'll just pull the quad in, get her warmed up, then decide if its time to goodyear it or just go the same old way. thinking I'd like to try the Goodyear (same price) but I'm sure that in the same riding conditions, and my style, the same breakdown would result. Is it time for a beltless ruby yet? I think not. Had a dealer today tell me that the Cat 500 is the way to go, and I would love the ride. I had a few words with that fellow, but he was SO pushy on that METAL cvt housing, wow, wow, wow, that is soooo cool, that sells me on cat man. Time to put the belt back on my baby and shut up. Ride on.
