The rancher is a 420 EFI with a manual trans, and it is (to me) a full-size quad.
The Hawkeye (in my mind) is like a Recon or Ozark sized machine... but with 4x4, IRS, auto trans w/EBS and 50 more cc's.
So if I buy a Hawkeye, it will be because it is those things and is a better "fit" for what I will be doing with it...
Not because I think it's comparable to a Rancher 420.

My security on my Vista machine must just not like their site or something.
The weird part is, I don't get any alerts or anything.
The site just won't load fully and work for me.
It will load the brown lineup selector.
But it won't load anything I click on to select... and I have adobe flash player 9 installed, which is what I assume it uses.
I'll try to remember to log into linux tomorrow and see if it works.

The only thing lacking on the hawkeye is 25 inch tires, Once i put the 35 inch tires on it it was like it grew up
the seat height was 32 inches now its 34, the real difference is the wheel base its 46 inches compared to everthing elses 47 to 50 inch wheel base, Comparing again the honda and the hawkeye they have different applications If i want speed then the 420 wins, If i want something that has storage and is American made then the hawkeye Wins, If i want to ride a 4 wheeler all day long Hawk wins again, that Honda will wear you Out, If i want true four wheel drive then the hawk wins.
But the Hawkeye is in a class of its own It will stomp the day lights out of a 360 Kawasaki whether its climbing or running down a trail and it definatly beats the older 350 hondas all the way around, you cant compare this quad to the Others beacuse its bigger to the smaller 250 machines and its to small to run with the much bigger machines, but if you need to pull one of those bigger machines out of the Mud it will do it, The only thing i did was put 25 inch tires on it and do some fuel mixture work , Ending up with machine that runs 50 mph and will pull alot of weight, It is a Utility atv not a sport atv, My videos on you tube back up the hawkeyes Abilitys.

Sheepdog - I just ordered the swamp foxes 24x9-12, and 24x11-12. Now I am concerned about steering. The Sportsmans run 25x8-12 up front.
Is yours difficult to steer with flat profile 9" up front? How does steering compare to stock 2" skinner tires?

Rickey,
How wide are your 25's? I always thought that skinney tires (plus round profile) turned better. Oh well, I will find out soon enough.
Also bought 10 gram rollers (80g total) and I drilled the carb. Rollers will be in when the tires get here. I should have just removed apposing rollers to save money but I felt better having even/spaced balance long term.
I saw your video about removing the rollers. Why do you use the T-tool when re-installing, but not when you take it apart? What is the t-tool doing because I saw you thread something in and then unthread it?
Do you have to use the t-tool or can you just impact everything back on?

Not meaning to butt in but... all I did was use an impact to remove the nut, and pulled the outer sheave assembly off the shaft. I removed two rollers and put the thing back on the shaft. My torque wrench decided to crap out on me so I just used the impact to tighten the nut down. I did put some blue Locktite on the threads too. I've had no problems. From what I can see in the manual the t-tool is just supposed to keep the two pieces of the outer sheave together so the rollers cannot fall out. I just held the two pieces together with my hands after removing the nut.
Removing two opposing rollers made the thing feel smoother. The handlebars don't buzz as bad as before, so IMO balance isn't going to be a problem removing two rollers. I would like to know how your's does with the 10 gram rollers though.
I went with 23" Swamp Fox tires and feel no difference in the steering.
BTW, check the bearing in the CVT case cover. Mine failed because it was a cheap Chinese bearing. It had NO grease in it. The bike only had about 30-35 hours on it. I bought an American made SKF bearing locally for about $8. IMO worth replacing while you have the cover off.

The bearing is a standard sealed bearing. I replaced mine when I added the wave spring to keep the bearing from chattering. We don't hear much out of the bearing since the wave spring has been installed. It seems that Polaris didnt have very close tolerances on their cases. The aluminum case just amplifies the sound too. You also have to make sure that your idle isnt too low or it will knock worse.
Think I am going to start selling the correct wave spring on EBAY with instructions. I took mine to the dealer twice and they told me the knock was normal. The dealer said several mechanics rode it, and they were all MMI certified. I told the dealer that they got screwed on their education if they thought that was a normal sound. I got fed up and fixed it myself.
Oh, the mechanics rode it alright. It was two weeks old and had scratches on the fenders, and sticks stuck under the bottom because they rode the **** out of it all weekend!
