Default Hot ? Check Engine ? Not.

Hi Polaris Dudes
I have an 06 Sportsman 6X6 I just took out of winter storage and for a short ride. The Hot check engine signal is on all the time but the engine isn,t hot or low on coolant or oil and the fan isn,t running. I charged the battery over night hoping for an easy fix but no good. checked the grounds the signal is still on. engine is cold and the signal is on. pulled the connector on the engine temp sensor the signal is still on.
Any suggestions on what to check and or change would be helpfull. I dont want to take it to the dealer for an easy fix and get sold a bunch of parts and labor I dont need.

\ Thanks
Houser

Did you check the radiator cap for proper coolant level? My friends 700 overheated yesterday. Teh overflow bottle was full, but the radiator was empty.

Coolant in res and radiator were both full. radiator was warm from proper circulation. and the fan was not running. I noticed that the temp sensor is no longer located on the radiator. probablly because of the low coolant makes it not work right thing.

Thanks though
Mike

only the efi models have the codes. you said the hot flashes as soon as you turn it on w/ it stone cold. then it must be a electrical issue w/ the sensor or the wiring. no mice or somthing didnt get to the wiring in storage did they. just a thought.

Recently ran into this problem on a 2000 Sportsman 500...It was WATER TEMP SENSOR on the leftside of the block...Polaris part# 3089892...This is what turns the hot light on...According to my dealer this is not uncommon..Hope this helps...

Changed the temp sending unit out today. $80. Speedo still flashed hot, check engine. Bummer. What next the ecm module. I noticed that the fan isn,t ever turning on and the fan wires and all the sensor wires go to and come from a master control module. Looks expencive what ever it is. I did test the fan to make sur it worked. I wired it directly to the batt and it spun right up.

Oh well Kaching kaching

Don't forget to check the simple things. I had a small stick or debri stop my fan from turning and got a hot engine warning. i had to feel in there with my fingers. removed it and fan started spinning.

Problem Fixed.
It was the do all end all voltage regulator, Fan switch, circuit breaker, indicator control, thing box. $120. And it was on extended warrentee due to its high failure rate so it didn,t cost me a dime.

Thanks for all the good advice.
