Default 06 sportsman 700 sputters at high rpm, help?

In my case the snorkle that goes upward from the forward top portion of the air box cover was jamming into the foam material at the rearward portion of the gas tank. Art least for the 05 there is a piece of foam back there with a cut out for the snorkle to go through. At any rate check to ensure there is no plugging of any sort on the air intake. Hope this helps.
I went out and checked what you were talking about. The only foam I have is to hold the intake tube in place. There is nothing around the top that could obstruct the opening to clog it.

Thanks for your help though.

that sounds right as my 06 800 doesnt have it over the inlet either. the guy that had the too much oil problem had to clean the intake and the butterfly that wen tinto his throttle body i beleave. could be wrong. anyways if it has too much oil it will act like its flooding it out w/ too much gas.

Bad fuel or fouled spark plug.
