27 or 28 tires for 06 sp500?
i need new tires for my 06 sp500. i currently have the 26's that came with it. i do a little mud and a lot of trails with large rocks ect. so i want a little more clearance.
i know i will lose some power but how much between the sizes? will i need a lift and or wheel spacers? i'm debating between ITP Mudlite in 28 or ITP Mudlite XTR in 27". also what are the lightest wheels that are still strong enough? any suggestions would be great. thanks in advance Shawn

The regular mudlites are made from a soft rubber compound and wear very fast. The xtr's are awesome. My next door neighbor has a set of 27" xtr's on his 06 500 and his 06 800. The 500 handles them great, with very little power loss. In fact if it lost any power at all it must be on top speed because the low to mid power seems untouched. He has the ITP type 7 and 27" xtr's. They perform GREAT in all applications!

Love my 27" XTRs and will put in a good word for mudlite XLs also. We all run ITPs and I wolg go with the 27". I have SS wheels and love the set up.
I just read that ITP was going to use the same harder rubber compound on their Mudlite XLs as they do with their 589s so thats good to know. My buddy has a rincon with 26" mudlites with over 3000 miles and they still look and perform great.

ITP makes the SS wheels and you can get the tires mounted and shiped to your door in a kit. The XTRs with SS wheels are a little more money, but your getting a radial tire with a wheel that has a lifetime warranty from bends and cracks and I can tell your from experience that ITP has great customer service. I bought mine through a parts unlimited/polaris dealer, but I found the best price on ebay which led me to a retailer out of nebraska. He would ship complete sets of the 27" XTRs on 14" SS wheels with caps, lug nuts and shipping included for $700.00 if you called him. 27" tires on 12" rims were cheaper and are what most guys run. There are some new great styles of ss wheels for polaris sportsmans.

I am sure they are mounted for you? Is there anything
you need to do besides add air and put them on your
bike? Also, like was asked before any wheel spacers
or special lug kits needed? As you know I have been
in the market I was looking thru Dennis Kirk and
a little overwhelmed with wheel/lug kits not knowing
what fits what for what sizes etc.
Thanks,
