Which bike? Trailblazer (06), Trailboss or Hawkeye?
#1
Most of the riding here is flat, sandy trails, some of them are pretty tight and twisty. I keep thinking about the Trailblazer but since that engine has been discontinued I wonder about parts and speed parts starting to dry up. I like the idea of the Hawkeye and the jetting and subframe problems seem to have been solved. I've also read a lot of stuff about it vibrating too much and being a little slow. The only drawback to the Trailboss is that it is 2wd.
The other machines I have been thinking of are the Recon, Ozark and 4wd Grizzly 350. There is a Yamaha and Honda dealer in town. The closest Suzuki dealer is 65 miles away and he offered to let me ride a customers Ozark that was in for service. (Yeah, it struck me as pretty shady too)
What do you guys think?

any good dealer will let you test drive a new mod. test them all, I picked the hawkeye just for all the options and from a local dealer I can trust. ( they even just put a new boot on my wifes for free she tore it at only 5hour of riding lol )
and one of the big things was independent rear for ground clearence solid alxes are just to low for rocks, I have one atv that I have to keep picking up over rocks it sucks!

dm1333,
I've been trying to find out where in the U.P. are you? The Hawkeye is a revver and does vibrate, but it's still one heck of a machine. Not really slow, mine does 40 mph, it's only a 300cc. And with AWD, EBS, and independent suspension, it's tough to beat for the price.

BTW, can SOMEONE get the stupid Can Am ads off the Polaris forum? I see the Polaris ads on the Raceway ATV forum.
I could give a crap who Mike Penland, or "Scott" is. BTW, who are they, should I know, should I care? It's slowing down the site for me.

Sheepdog,
I'm in Sault Ste. Marie. The one thing I don't want is something like the Scrambler, I need more of a utility style. I know the Trailblazer is a sport quad but the full coverage plastics will keep me nearly as clean as a utility quad. I'm not in any real hurry to buy one but having so many options to choose from makes it harder.
What do you guys think of the vibration? A few articles I read said it vibrated more than most quads, and a few said it vibrated so much the testers hands and butt were going to sleep. I really need to change my profile since I no longer live in California.

You said you need a utility style, if so, then you probably want AWD as well. A couple of examples, my Honda Rancher 2WD couldn't plow snow without tire chains, and even then it was barely adequate. Also, the Rancher wouldn't plow dirt being just 2WD. However, my Sportsman plowed snow without a problem without tire chains. And it also just plowed/leveled a bunch of top soil just the other day in AWD without a problem. I'm sure my Hawkeye would have been able to do just as well at either task. So, if you need a utility styled ATV, get AWD with it. If you buy a 2WD now thinking it will be good enough, guaranteed you'll trade or sell it for a AWD the following year and lose money on the deal.
The Hawkeye does vibrate, but I've never taken serious issue with it. A set of aftermarket grips would make it really nice, I've thought about getting the basic foam Grab-on model.
I was hoping you'd be closer to Marquette than SSM. If I ever head over that way to ride, I'll let you know. Powerslider came to the U.P. last year with his ATV, spent a weekend in the Newberry area. It would be fun to meet up some time.
Good luck in your decision.

well my wife has an ozark. and i ride it alot. most of my friends have 450cc and up. and sometimes i take hers for a ride and lead. I have to wait for them at times. not saying its faster than those . it is'nt but its sporty and tight and its easier to menuver in tight trails. i have to wait for them sometimes as long as minute to catch up. the downside on it . is its not plush like any irs quad so it'll get bumpy in the hard stuff.
