Hello,
I just bought my first four wheeler, a '98 Polaris Trail Blazer 250. The rear brake is not working. I discovered that it just needs new brake pads. I just don't know how to get them off. There are two small bars that hold the brake pads on the caliper. Could someone tell me how to remove the pads? Also, how do you tighten the chain on this bike.

umm there should be a pin type thinggy on top of the caliper and u should be able pull that pin out and the pads should fall out and than u just put the new pads back in and ur good to good adn reinsert that pin.....now the chain u have to loosen to the bolts that hold the rear houseing in and then the at he bottom left right beside the left bolt that u loosend up than u put a pin punch in the side where the big sprocket is and than rolle it foward or back wards to tightn or loosen the chain now if u dont understand like where im talkin about im sure some one eles can explain it better btu i think u should be able to get the idea

 

Are the brakes on the '98 up on the transmission output shaft?

Yes, the rear brake on the '98 Trail Blazer is on the transmission output shaft. I think Polaris changed it in '99.

Thanks for the diagram. You can see that number 4 is the part I was talking about. I still don't know how to get them out. I tried pounding the dowels inward but they only gave a little and it doesn't seem like that is the right way to do it.

Do you have to pull the caliper off to get the caliper apart? I have not messed with one of those. I wish I could be more help.

 

Okay, I figured it out. The dowels are supposed to slide out once the caliper is removed. It's pretty easy after all. Mine didn't want to slide out because they had a little grime on them from getting dirty over the years. Thanks for your help.
