I’ve been asking about plows, I guess it was a premonition. That snowblower just went out on my tractor. The tractor is over 30 years old, so I got my moneys worth. But now to fix it again? Get another tractor? Or buy a plow for my quad? How much is a complete plow set up? And which do you all recommend? Heavy wet snow up to 20 to 25 inches. And where’s the best place to buy from?

 

Polaris has a nifty snow blower with a 13 hp motor and is 48' wide. Its the only thing I think you can use for that deep a snow. Going to set you back about 3 grand though.

 

I've seen manual lift ones that fit about any ATV advertised for about $250. How good are they and how much snow can you push?

I bought a Country Plow for my Kodiak, manual lift. The whole setup was $359 through my dealer. It works great, takes a beating, and thelift is incredibly easy to use. We don't get a whole bunch of snow, so I have no idea just how much it will push. I'm sure if you have the horsepower, it will do just fine.

 

The best plows I have seen are made by Cycle country, and Moose. I put a 60 inch straight blade on my SP500 and it works great. For large quantites I would suggest either the County plow, or State plow, both have a simlar design that mimics the county/state highway type plows with a tapered blade. For 20-25 of wet snow at one time, you will have a hard time with any system short of a 1 ton or larger pick-up. For that much snow, you will have take small bites at a time with the quad. But you do get a lot of ATV time when plowing. I finally get my SP500 back on wed. (2 weeks waiting for parts!!!)

 

Hey I am going to buy a blade sometime this week and I am going to buy the moose tapered edge blade but I don't know which one i should pick between 50 inches or 60inches wide. The dealer said I should get the 50 inch blade because it is more manuverable. I think I want to 60"er just so I can push 10 more inches of snow each time. Anyone have any advice. Money isnt a problem there is only a $30.00 difference between the two. Thanks in advance

 

i have a 48 inch plow,love it. i was plowing about 12 inches of power that had been on the ground for a week,had to take off the top half and work it down. i've got an artic cat 500 so power is no problem. had to push most of it strait on,angle the blade and it would push the frontend around!if you buy a60 inch plow ask the dealer if he will trade you back if you don't like it,or you might be sorry!

 

My Sportsman 500 has no problem pushing the 60" blade, whether it's 3 inches or 10" it works good.

If you are plowing the wide open spaces a wider plow is fine: My Magnum could push alot more than the 48" plow I have on it but:
-I do alot of sidewalks. Any wider and I would be plowing lawn.

-48" fits right between the wheel wells of a pickup.

With 48" you don't have to worry about catching something outside the width of your tracks.
