I lost the rpms gauge a few months ago. went riding last weekend the machine would just die. i still had full dash read out. we started cleaning all conections and got to the unit under the headlight it looks like a car stereo amp. we unpluged the lower plug and the rpm started working again and it wouldnt die. the rpms were not correct but they worked and it ran. i ran diag. mode and i have 12.3 volts and 158ohms in gear mode

 

welcome to the forum. caper had a simular problem w/ his and it turned out to be the modual was bad which is the part i do beleave you are talking about. it does controll alot of differnt functions including the recifier, and even part of the head light set up. he might chime in here.

 

thanks stendori a buddy said pull side case with recoil and check if rpm mag. isnt dirty i will check that. called local dealer they said bring it in but that is a long haul for me

 

i would think it is really sealed good so i wouldnt think there would be any dirt in there but maybe i guess. let us know.

 

Yes the E.C.M. or module was replaced on my 2006 450 with only 900 miles on it......The dealer covered the cost even though I was out by about two months......I have the factory manual also for the Sportsman 450 and this box really does alot of stuff!!!.......I really don't think there would be dirt in there also.........Any more questions just post I will try to answer.........How many miles on it ......if you don't mind me asking!!!

My trouble with the E.C.M. was that the quad would stall when I turn my headlights on.........Run fine without any lights on......As soon as I turn the switch......Quad stalled.........

If i pull ecm off and take it in can they test it ?

 

I really don't know!!!......The dealer told me to take the one off mine and swap the one from my wife's (other 450) so I just did the switch and e-mail him back and told him that was the problem.......The one from my wife's worked........So then he would send me a new one by mail (needed to send him the old one first)................However the part was back-ordered so I needed to wait about 6-weeks to get it!!!......................this was back in Feb/07...................Caper............

 

i pulled ecm off and it is the same numbers as your old one made in china

 

Did you read about the new one!!!!...Much larger and extra wiring harness .......Caper.....

i have read all about the new unit i hope my dealer will be as good as yours and replace it for free. my wheeler is 1 year old and just over 500 miles i love riding it over my honda rancher at. much smoother ride. tomorrow i will take unit to the dealer and have them test it. i called them last week and they said they have a tester from polaris but polaris doesnt want them to us it because it is unreliable. anyone ever heard that one
