Are there any good ways to pull this without using the actual tool? It looks like I just need to get a good hold of the shaft and pull it out right? If thats the case I have plenty of scrap metal I can just fab up my own tool.

don't pull on the shaft !!!!!!!

pull on the holes in the gear ~ pull on the shaft will cost you $400
