just a question.... were your stock tires in need of replacing.... or did you just not like them anymore....

there is no comparission to the m.lites xl's to the stock pxt's. they dig great in deed. the bug differnce is your pxt's are radials and may ride a bit softer then the xl's. the 27"s just give you a little more ground clearance but have the same dept tread i do bleave.

Since you mentioned that you ride a lot of hard packed gravel roads, you may find that the Mudlites for your applications may not work good for you. They were by design geard more for mud (but also not a hard core mud tire), with trail riding as an afterthought. You may find that the cornering ability is lacking and smoothness is also lacking. From seeing others with them I can say that they do not grip rocks well or loose dirt/gravel. The latteral grip is not up to par as they were designed to dig straight ahead in mud.
I don't want to be the bearer of bad news or to offend you but I also hate to see you spend your money and be dissapointed.
For the type of riding you do, I think that 'Duro - Buffalo' or "BKT - Wings" or "GBC - Dirt-devils / Innova - 8004's" and maybe even "Sigma - Mudcats" may have been a closer match for you.

i sure apprciate the advice you guys are given and hope that i am not settin myself up for disappointment, but i have seen about the identical tire to the mudlite do pretty well in all of the conditions i ride in not that it means the mudlites will but i think i am gonna give em a shot. and if i am wrong i will be the first to admit being an idiot and doing what i want instead of listening to others, that know more than me

sence you have the same bike as myself, i can tell you first hand if you went w/ the mud lite xtr's instead of the xl's you wont have that rough hard pack riding as he mentioned. these are a radial tire and are like your stock ones in that reguard. i also had dirt devils on another nike and they do well but seem to were out faster. remeber no what you get for tires, if you ride alot of hard pack like roads a soft rubber tire will were faster. and a hard compound tire wont grip as much on like rocks or what have you. just a thought for ya.

I have 25" mudlite XL's on my 400. A really excellent tire, but wear seems to be a little fast, but it's hard to tell, with school my riding has been real on and off (like a lot for a month, then not at all for another) so I can't say exactly how they wear. I think I have around 750-800 miles on them? The fronts show about 1/16" wear, the rears I'd say about 1/4".

I replaced my stock 489's (that's a really good discount tire). They had 1200 miles on them and about 1/2" tread left. They are now the rear tires on my craftsman garden tractor (which made a night and day difference when mowing the steep hills and ditches on my property. No more skidding out of control down the huge front hill repeatedly, trying to get all the high grass like skiball or something!)
