I have a magazine from the Surplus Center which has everything from 12VDC winches to wind-powered generators. They (it)has an assortment of actuators that aren't nearly as expensive as ya'll are saying. If I remember correctly, there is an actuator (12VDC and everything) that is $75 that has a 6-inch...uh...uh..can't think of the word...uh...crap! Anyway, it travels up to six inches out.What's the word? Oh yeah, as for the orange flags (Tree Farmer) I now use them.
